 2009 Riding4Hope Team

Charity Bike Ride

The Riding4Hope Mackovjak cycling team (David, John, James & Skip) will depart from Silverdale, WA on June 28th and arrive in Virginia Beach, VA on August 9th. The team plans on riding an average of 100 miles a day over the course of their journey across America. The idea for the 3,900 mile journey was conceived two years ago when the three cyclists were participating in a five day Boy Scout Troop 1506 bike trip in the San Juan Islands, WA. While on the trip they biked over 250 miles and John and James, Eagle scouts expressed their interest to bike across America.

During the up coming cross country ride, we will be stopping at local Boys & Girls Clubs along the way to talk to youth about the importance of staying healthy and being involved in physical activities. We will also be visiting military installations to raise awareness about the Wounded Warriors Project. The Ride4Hope cycling team supports these two non-profit organizations and continues to use their abilities to improve the communities and individuals they serve.

Monday, 8/24 -- We are planning a welcome back celebration @ Silver City on Monday 8/24 from 4 - 6 PM. All are welcome to stop by and say hi and hear about our adventures as we biked across America for the last 43 days. Hope to see you there!!

We made it!!

8/9/09 -- Yahoo!! Wow, we made it to Virginia Beach VA!! That afternoon there was a heat advisory as we biked up Atlantic Ave to the 24th street access to the boardwalk on Sunday, 9 Aug @ 6 PM. We were amazed by the reception we received with cheers, laughter and lots of smiling faces of family, friends, the NAS Oceana Boys and Girls Club, First Command, FOX43 TV news crew and NAS Oceana base paper, Jet Observer. Our arrival celebration included the ceremonial wheel dipping, pouring water that we carried from the Pacific Ocean into the Atlantic and a few words of thanks; to include lots of hugs, laughs, and congratulations!! Afterwards we finished up by meeting at Murphy's Restraunt for drinks and dinner. It was a great way to end an epic journey that had started 43 days ago and some 3,900 miles. Our many thanks to family, friends, sponsors, donors, and the great folks across America who made this charity bike ride a complete success for meeting our goal and raising monies and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Thank you all for your support and generosity!!
